Q. Why does a video cost so much?
A. The simple short answer is because there is so much more to video productions then still photography. Once the photographer is done, the amount of work they have to do after the wedding is minimal compared to a post production video.
Q. Why should we hire a wedding videographer when we already have a photographer?
A. We are not here to replace your photographer. If a picture is worth a thousand words, we capture what can’t be said by still photographs in High Definition video.
Q. So what is really involved with producing a wedding video?
A. There are three phases to any video production to help insure a great wedding documentary in the end.
The first phase is the “Pre Production” phase. Once you put down your deposit to reserve the day, we start working. We will need information from you such as the contact information for your wedding coordinator. If you do not have a wedding coordinator, we will need a list of all of the vendors you are booking for your wedding. These are the various locations for the wedding and reception, the DJ to arrange audio feeds for clean audio, caterers, limo service, stable if you’re having a horse and carriage… And most important, the photographer to alert them that another camera crew will be there and to trade ideas with them.
The second phase is the “Production” phase. This is pretty simple, it is your wedding day and the documenting of your big day.
The third and final phase is the “Post Production” phase. This the second most important phase of the production and the longest phase of the production where we have to watch every single second of footage that we get. We then have to bring in the audio feeds from the various sources and make sense of about 8-12 hours of video from multiple cameras.
Then once that is all done and we have all the footage logged and sorted out with the audio sources, that’s when we can finally start mixing and editing your video.
It is kind of like chiseling a huge block of stone to make a beautiful sculpture.
Q. Why do you need to contact the other vendors?
A. Simple answer, what if you wanted to have your wedding photos at a public location such as the Mall Of America? It’s a public place right? Yes and No, it might be open to the public but they have rules about camera crews.
Some locations will not let anyone take pictures or film in their Church, Synagogue, Sanctuary, or Temple unless they have been preapproved. A short meeting with us a few weeks before your wedding can solve this issue.
Other locations such as hotels or country clubs may require additional insurance for outside vendors including photographers and videographers. We want to check to make sure that anything and everything is covered so that when we start working on your wedding day, all we are focused on is documenting your wedding day.
Q. We see you have made a huge name for yourself in the news and weather video industry. What if there is severe weather or huge breaking news event happening on the same day of our wedding?
A. While we love storm chasing and covering the news, your day was planned, booked and scheduled weeks if not months in advance. You hired us to do a job and our focus will be on documenting your wedding or event.
Q. What type of audio equipment do you use?
A. We use a wide range of audio equipment from wireless Lavalier Microphones on the grooms and officiate and solid state 4 track audio recording to insure the best sound quality possible. When possible we will patch into the house audio feeds with our 4 track recorder as a backup audio source during the service. We can also patch our audio system into your DJ’s audio output to obtain clean audio during the reception.
Q. What type of HD video cameras do you use?
A. We have many different types of cameras at our disposal for the wide range of television projects that we work on. Our main cameras are three chip broadcast quality HD video cameras. We also use smaller broadcast HD cameras to place cameras where they are not noticed but add in the extra angle needed for a true documentary look and feel.
Q. How long does it take until we receive the final copy of the video?
A. We try to have all of the video’s done within forty-five to sixty days of the wedding.
Q. What about adding music to my video where you edit the funny stuff before the wedding into a music video?
A. Sure, it is your video production and you can supply us with the music. We only use the music that you provide to us or that was used during your wedding or reception. If you have a favorite song that is a just an inside joke between the two of you, we can work with you to edit together a fun video for it.
If you choose to post it on the internet, well that is your choice but most music is copyrighted and you might run into copyright issues on sites like YouTube.
Q. We have some very secret plans for our wedding to surprise our family and friends. Do we have to tell you?
A. Yes, if you want us to make sure we have the surprise captured on video. We won’t tell anyone else outside of our crews but we would love to be able to catch the surprised looks on everyone’s faces and the dramatic event itself.
Q. Our friends and family don’t even know where we are staying the night before or after so that we don’t have to worry about them trashing the hotel room or playing pranks on us. Do we need to tell you where we are staying?
A. All we would need is an emergency contact to reach you such as your cell phone numbers incase of an emergency. In most cases we will already have this information to coordinate meeting up in the morning for hair and makeup.
Q. Do you give any discounts?
A. Yes, we knock off about thirty percent during the winter months and we will add in an additional discount of $100.00 if the location of the wedding and reception is the same place. This saves us a lot of time and stress with having to breakdown all the gear and setting it back up in another location across town.
Q. Location Weddings, what if we wanted to hire you to fly to another state or country to film us getting married.
A. Yes we do location video productions and travel expenses would be an extra fee on top of the wedding video production. Also we would charge day rates for our crews on the travel days to and from the location.
